Looks like not all are working. For my car it works

    NHTSA Recall ID Number: 90V016000

    1989 BMW 7-Series 750IL Recall Date:
    01/30/1990

    1989 BMW 7-Series 750IL Component:
    SEAT BELTS:FRONT:BUCKLE ASSEMBLY

    Potential Units Affected:
    13100

    Summary:
UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, FRONT SEAT CENTER, FOLD-DOWN ARM REST MAY CONTACT THE SAFETY BELT BUCKLE, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE RELEASE BUTTON AND PREVENTING THE BELT TONGUE FROM LATCHING WHEN BUCKLING UP.

    Consequence:
OCCUPANT WOULD NOT BE PROPERLY RESTRAINED AND COULD BE INJURED IN THE EVENT OF A SUDDEN STOP OR ACCIDENT.

    Remedy:
REPLACE FRONT SEAT SAFETY BELT BUCKLES WITH SHORTER VERSION THAT WILL NOT CONTACT THE ARMRESTS. NOTE: OWNER NOTIFICATION DATE; 2/90 IS PREPARED IN DRAFT FORM.

    Notes: BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE,

    NHTSA Recall ID Number: 89V005000

    1989 BMW 7-Series 750IL Recall Date:
    01/17/1989

    1989 BMW 7-Series 750IL Component:
    VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL

    Potential Units Affected:
    13100

    Summary:
ACCELERATOR PEDALS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN PROPERLY ATTACHED TO THE FLOOR PAN DURING ASSEMBLY.

    Consequence:
UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, PEDAL MAY BECOME STUCK AND NOTFULLY RETURN TO THE IDLE POSITION WHEN THE DRIVER REMOVES HIS FOOT FROM THEPEDAL CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL, WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.

    Remedy:
COMPLETELY SEAT LUGS IN THE RECESSES OF THE FLOOR PAN TO ASSURE PROPER ATTACHMENT OF THE GAS PEDAL.

that means that they never recalled a 540 produced that year.

There definitely should be recalls, my whole engine has been replaced under warranty, and I just replaced a throttle cable that sawed its way through the hose--I think that was a recall item as well

Ha! Checked mine. Throttle cable issue that could cause throttle not to close completely. Consequence Vehicle may not "decelerate as expected"
    Masters of understatement I'd say.

Yep, works for mine. My local dealer told me there was a recall outstanding on mine and they would fix it for free! It was just a check to see if anyone changed the rad cap since 1992 :-)
