I just graduated from college! So I spent the week working on my car. New brakes front and rear.



I was leaving the house to go get parts for my BMW 525i from the dealership just 2 miles away.



I was heading eastbound on a very quiet residential neighborhood, and was going to turn left onto another residential street. There are no stop signs or warning signs of any kind in this area.

I slowed down, looked both ways, then proceeded to start my turn.

Oh hey, there's a Volvo and a large tree blocking my view, but it's clear, right? :q:

Halfway into the intersection, I saw a car in my peripheral vision. This Camry is barreling straight for my door. "Oh ****" is the only thing that went through my brain.


It was over in less than a second. My driver's seat collapsed under the pressure, and was pushed inward into the car by the collapsing B-pillar.




This is the damage to her car. Her left corner struck my B-pillar dead on.




My car is toast. I didn't see her coming. The other lady claims that she didn't see me either. But because I'm young and I was making a left-hand turn, the insurance company is probably going to find me at-fault for the accident. She also insisted on a police report because there was going to be "over $750 in damages." Not to her car, though.


I'm 25 years old, no accidents on my record. This is the one that's going to probably **** me over for the next 3-5 years.

In the meantime I get to drive my recently-deceased father in law's 1989 Corolla DX.

If the cop didn't site you, might be a split responsibility. Perhaps she was going too fast? Were there skid marks from her?

As people have said - it's much easier to buy an e34 than sell one, so you managed to solve that issue. Now the question is, what will the next one be?

Unless there are skid marks, it's more likely going to be mostly your fault. Being a blind intersection, some fault will be hers, especially since the damage looks like she was speeding.

Um, the driver's side exterior is ruined. Are you talking about the interior panels? I can check to see how bad they are.

To the original poster, surely 25 is an old enough age to not be a "young driver"? Unless you guys over at the states have insurance rules different there.

I've had 2 accidents with my E34, both of them not my fault, and both of them occurring within the last 3 months. Both of them were rear-end collisions, both of them were when my car was stationary, both of them women drivers.

First accident happened in a shopping center car park, woman in a late model Camry with a tow bar reversed into my bumper. I thank and am forever grateful for the BMW engineer that decided to put shock absorbers behind the rear bumper, he/she is a freaking genuis. Insurance companies here in Australia have a policy that if a collision occurs in a shopping center car park, then bar any other evidence the accident is automatically both parties at fault so excess paid will cover your own car only (of course assuming both parties have comprehensive cover). Lucky I had a witness who was on my side and said to my insurance company that I was stationary and that this bitch just ran into my stationary car, which demonstrates that she was obviously not looking where she was reversing. Good thing too, since the woman who reversed into me wanted to leave the scene of the accident, I had to actually grab her arm to stop her from leaving, I wanted to get her details and she was reluctant to give them to me.

Second collision which happened just over 2 weeks ago, I was sitting in 6pm traffic where a 97 Hyundai Excel rear ended me. The girl was still on her probationary licence (red P in the window) and only had third-party insurance cover. My bumper is pretty scratched up and there is a scratch on my bootlid, so it's basically just a minor patch up on the bumper and then a respray. Her car did not fare as well! Front end all smashed up, broken headlights, indicator hanging out and to top it off her hood all crumpled up (that's what would've hurt me the most if I were in her shoes, damage just went up hundreds of dollars with that). She decided to pay me directly so I can go get my car repaired rather than go through insurance, since the damage on my car is less than the excess she would have to pay if I or her would make a claim. Her excuse for the accident was that she got distracted by the flash of the overhead tram line wires. Speaking to her after the accident I came to the conclusion that she's a few pencils short of a Faber Castel Artists set.

Anyway, enough of me rambling, sorry to take the limelight off ya a bit, but it's good to see that you're still alive. If the car is a write-off (looks like it), hope you get to find another solid car to drive, hopefully and probably another E34
