    Default *E34 M5 Conversion*

Hello people, I have an engine, gearbox & all the other bits. I'm looking to buy a new shell. Am currently looking at a 525i Sport. Just wondering whether how much trouble it'd be to install the M5 in something like that?

Is there a better model that is more compatible? For example a 530, 535, 540 etc?

    Kind regards.

I imagine you have a very large pile of "bits" then. The M5 was based on the 535 - but LOTS of bits are different - interior, steering box, SLS (then again some 535s had SLS didn't they?), roll bars, springs, shocks, brakes, exhaust, fuel system, body trim, lots different under the bonnet (hood) - eg oil cooler, expansion tank, air filter setup. I also found plenty of wiring differences between the '89 535 and 90 M5 - eg some lights would not work when I swapped LKMs - no CCM in the 535. It can and has been done. I believe one in NZ was done on a 525.

I imagine just the engine/gearbox would be far easier...if you are determined to have an M5 find yourself a 535is,then you would have 90 per cent of the exterior and interior as well, but there will still be lots missing.

Still lots of other bits needed - oil cooler, etc.

    Thanks guys.

I've found myself a 525i Sport (1996) which I will settle for. I was looking for a 535i Sport but the ones for sale in the UK are the older models (1989) which is far too old for me. I have the oil cooler and even have my rims to put on there.

Is there anything else besides the oil cooler that may/will need to be added?

    Kind regards.
