nice work, its good to hear everyones experience with swapping/cleaning parts. Now i know what to look for when doing mine.
...and Finally got around to redoing my front rotors, and replacing the temp pads with a set that doesnt try and kill me every 5 minutes. If you're UK based, dont ever, ever buy a set of halfords pads, they fade like you wouldn't believe.
Had to get a bit violent with the old rotors as their locking hex bolts had crumbled into oblivion.
Nothing a lump hammer couldnt solve. Actually sheared the first rotor, thought better of it and went and charged the drill up before trying the second one.
Drilled the bolt on the second one:
This I suppose doesnt do justice to how knackered the rotors were.
Chav warning:
Well, at least red and green go together!
Sorry for spamming the forums with picture threads like this, I just like to keep photo records

Where did you get the pads/discs? You go for one of those matched pads and discs deals?

I hit GSF and got a full set of pads and new front rotors for 100 and something quid, I'll check the invoice when I do the rears tomorrow.Originally Posted by whiskychaser
The pads are Texar I think, which have these really nifty anti-squeal pads on the back of them. The rotors are brembo, which claim to be OEM but I dont believe a word of it.
great post.. i'll be referring to it when i do my brakes

Where's the picture of your breaker bar?
Same problem here yesterday. Those damn rotor set screws were a bitch. I just used a reverse drill bit.Drilled the bolt on the second one:
New rotors look nice!

I haven't done brakes on the 530i yet, but the rotor set screws were always a pain on my Honda. Has anybody used an impact screwdriver? Worked a treat on the CRX and cheap at around $10 US.

Trouble is, there's nothing to grip, the hex sockets in the screws have a nasty habit of rusting round again... and rusting to the rotor at the same time.Originally Posted by Vanguard
