I am looking at the new FPR and the existing one. They both seem similar. I can't see any type of ring... nor where it would go to hold the FPR in place.

the regulator is held into the flared end with a circlip.. you can't see the clip because it's hidden by the flared end of the fuel rail
you'll see it when you remove the fuel rail from the intake manifold
