Also Adrian Flux (I think) are another good one at insuring 535s! They should be able to get you under the 500 quid mark on it as classic status.

You what? hahaha, where do you keep getting all these little gems from?

I'd love to call dibs on some of the more flashy M5 bits, but I bet they're already making a B-line for your TDs

I'll do a quick edit of that photo at work tomorrow and scramble your reg plate before posting it

This place is getting ridiculous. Its not that i disagree with these things because i don't, i just hate the way they try to justify these fines in the interest of "safety" when all they are really doing is throwing another tax on the unsuspecting public.
Yeah, insurance companies will give you **** for an SP30 as it's almost classed as dangerous driving in their books...

I got nailed for doing 97.9 in my old pug 205DTi and got asked if I wanted to take the dangerous driving slip (to be fair, I was driving like an absoloute tit at the time!) and be in court in a month. Or, I could sign on the 3 point fixed penalty notice there and then...

Quite often the copper really is just doing their job, most of them are okay - I really should have been nailed for DD that day. It's the cameras that piss me off, I think we should start a national movement for torching the ****ing things...

I hate the way they go for the easy target all the time! A friend of mine is a copper and he says (I've heard this from a few places actually) its all driven by stats. Collaring someone for a simple, no hassle, non arguable offense means that they will get a guaranteed conviction (or fine or whatever) which means 100% success rate and less paperwork cos its more open and shut. A more difficult case that takes a lot of resource and may or may not get a conviction is avoided due to the low success rate and the money involved. Terrible, and the police hate it as much as we do but their hands are tied. So the general law abiding public get it in the neck as we are easy targets while the dregs with no shame get away with it. Don't get me going..

Anyway on to insurance. When I was 25 my 535i sport was £500 but I had 6 years NCB. Just got a quote for my missus' CLK 200 and its £221 fully comp! I know its only a 2 litre but that is cheap!

I have found that Elephant is usually really competitive, get a quote from them. I've used the search engines like confused and they are rubbish, quoted me £1600 (cheapest) last time, I eventually got it off elephant for £530.

You can also play them off each other, when they ask what your lowest quote is knock a few quid off, go back to your current insurer and tell them you've had a cheaper quote, they usually counter-offer. Try and put your missus or another female on there (make sure you put she regularly uses another car) and this should knock a bit off as well. And don't forget the obvious things like make sure you specify driveway or garage if you have one (even if you don't put it in there all the time). Each of these things might only make £20 difference individually but they should add up. Most important thing though don't lie or bend the truth to the point you can't 'blag' it should you need to make a claim. Insurers will give you cover easy but if there is anything in your application that you cannot prove (such as garage overnight, NCB etc) they will try to refuse to pay, even if its unrelated - car being in garage overnight for example has no bearing if you have an accident but the insurers can use that to try and null your policy - so only 'bend' the truth as much as you can get away with!

Yeah, if they look at my alloys + leather interior I'll be in trouble I suppose, I've not got the alpinas declared :/

Need to find a decent set of originals tbh, though I wonder how much different the policy would cost with them declared.

When I asked about my alloys I was told that they would add to the policy for an admin fee (£16 I think) but the wheels would only be covered as though they were standard wheels. If you added them on at the start of the policy I imagine it would cost roughly the same but if you wanted them insured as Alpinas then I haven't got a clue. Even for standard BMW alloys though I imagine a set of new e34 wheels and tyres would cost about £600 so you could just ask for the money instead and buy another set of good used Alpinas. Its worth a call to the insurance co though, you can call them and say you are 'thinking' about it and they can give you a price, that way you are not committed.

Although its always good to have a spare set of standard alloys for emergencies!!

Firstly I know, 23 yrs young + 3.5L = £££££. However i'm wondering if any of you out there are in a similar situation and/or can point me in the direction of a good company to try??! I've tried lots and lots of different ones on the internet but i'm getting a bunch of ridiculous (£2000+) quotes... But i know there's bound to be some out there specialising in our types of cars.

Changing the car is out of the question of course, I love it too much!

Oh and does anyone know what the alarm/immobiliser system in my car is called (i.e is it CAT1 etc?) - its the full closure alarm + immobiliser with OBC code.

    Any suggestions GREATLY appreciated!

Over here you wouldn't even be able to get isurance at your age on that car.

I usually find churchill is about 10% cheaper than tesco on the E34 - however where you live can massively affect your quote if it's fully comp.

Will give them a go provided a stupid dog in the back window isnt mandatory. You can live in a 'good' area and still have the same postcode as a duff one. Winston Churchill was our MP once. Not for long though. Speaks volumes doesnt it
