New master cylinder installed; fluid lines won't go in!?

I installed a new brake master cylinder today since the old one had a hole in it and was slowly leaking fluid. However, I can't for the life of me get the fluid lines to screw on to the new cylinder. They just won't "catch" onto the threads. Any ideas? Yes, I'm turning the screw the correct way.
