Default OT: Building East German Cars

Now you know why they had to wait 10 years for the delivery of a Trabbi
    The strict quality control .......

This is a video from an old East German car plant, where steel shortages often resulted in cars being built from cardboard and workers kicked more... components into place

That is (was) for real, no comic.
That showed in the good old East German days the final quality control in the Trabant factory.
And the bending of the parts is indeed very easy on these cars.
The Trabi is already now a cult car, and there are plans to make the "Trabi" II"

i know that that was for real. it is an english-speaking joke about the germans being very direct and never having nuance in anything.

for example....on a comedy show from america called saturday night live (this was in 2002), (they) discussed a german girl inventing a bed that flips you out of it when the alarm goes off. the girl named it the "merciless bed". the show hosts said that the girl won the award for the "most german invention name".

Thanks for teaching me the fine nuances of American-English, really difficult to a non native English speaker to understand that.
And when it comes to British English, that is even more difficult for me.

Shogun. It's difficult for some native British speakers to grasp as well! Sarcasm and irony pass quite a few people by.

Love the videos, although it's my understanding that Trabants were mainly constructed from a kind of fibre-glass rather than metal? The use of "watchmakers adjusting screwdrivers" (big hammers) and feet to fettle the body work is quite disturbing.

    Cool.
