    Default Need a driveshaft for a 1991 735i autobox

I am getting a slapping noise from the center bearing area on my 7. Thinking the worst case I need to know where I can get a driveshaft. Not wanting to turn in a years pay I would like to find a rebuilt and not from the bimmerrobbers.

I am going to try Brownies Independent transmission service here in Beavercreek Ohio. They have a good record with me and they have a full driveline service that I did not know about. I am going to pull the shaft tomorrow. Found out tonight that the center U and bearing are shot. Might as well have the shaft rebuilt while I have it out. Will give me time to purchase a center bushing, muffler clamps and hangers. Need to look at the flex disk and see if I need one of these too.

There is no flex disk on a 735 automatic as far as I know.
    Only the 740 has one.

Why don't they put a flex disk on the autobox?

Found out the front U is toast but the rest of the bearing are in great shape. Took it down to American Driveline in Dayton Ohio. Guy says they will have the replacement on Monday. $45.00 for installation and the U. Heck of a deal.

While we are at it I need to know what is this sensor on the left side of the autobox? It is leaking fluid. Sorry about the photo quality but, to much stuff around to get a good pic.

Is this the flex disk? If so who is correct.... do autoboxes have a flex disk or not?

On the E32 only the 740 with autobox has a flex disk. Others not.
The 'sensor' is the connector for the connection transmission<>TCU. If it leaks, there could be no good signals to the TCU. The problem is, that connector on the tranny is fixed to the wire loom inside the valve body. You must remove the oil pan from the tranny, remove the nut outside the tranny box, and the you can push it inside. I have seen some connectors where the trans fluid is leaking inside the plug around the pins. Apparently the epoxy or whatever palstic which holds the pins inside the plugs gets brittle. You might try to seal it with some epoxy or whatever you find suitable.
If you find a good long lasting solution, that would be a great help, because the plug is not available as single item, but just as a complete wire loom inside the valve body. Costs around $100.
There are older gear boxes which have 8 pins, and the newer ones of the same type have 7 pins only, see here
