    Default bilstein install question

I'm getting front shocks replaced and getting good deal on sport bilstein strut inserts. One of them is missing a threaded ring that secures strut to housing.
My question is can I reuse the oem ring that's on the car now?

When I changed to Bilstiens the collar nuts looked almost identical so I'd say you could reuse it, but I absolutely destroyed my old ones getting it off so you might end up in the situation... Worth getting an new one I'd say...

Also while we on this topic. Are there any problems with having sport bilstein strut, which is designed for lowered car, with OEM springs?

Do you already have the shocks, if not get a pic of the ring so you can call bilstein and get one. My BS where from an m5, and the threaded ring was COMPLETELY different.

you may have a bit of a harsh ride as the shorter strut is designed for a shorter spring.

the oem springs will be "pre loaded" already due to being extra compressed because of the shorter strut.

I'd reuse the strut collar if the old one came off cleanly. I can't think of a reason not to. It's not under huge loads in a direction where it's weak, right?

You'd most likely find that it'd ride more comfortably with a shorter and stiffer spring.

Be sure to drain the oil out of the strut housing...
