Thats the way it is for young drivers, my first car was a Vauxhall Nova 1.2, the car cost me £400 and it was £600 to insure, that was over 10 years ago and its even worse now!
The latest Top Gear show (season 13 number 2) They mention a 1997 7 series in the show. Richard Hammond says that it is a great car and it is cool. I agree. Richard Hammond discovers the price of insurance for a 17 year old in the UK is $7000 pounds per year. =O Holy crap how do you guys afford to drive in the UK. I have two bimmers and two Honda accords insured for $1100 USD per year and I think this is high.

UK 1997 e34 540iA Touring, 1989 535i Sport - now sold, 1998 Mercedes CLK 200 Coupe
When my elder son passed his test it about 8 years ago it cost me £800 per year to put him on the insurance. When the younger one passed it only cost me another £500 on top of that. Bargain! That was on a 1.6 Honda
My oldest boy is 18 now and drives the 91 735i, costs us ~$500 USD a year just for his car. The two Honda accords and my bimmer about $600
Yeh i watched that episode of top gear and i couldnt believe how expensive the insurance was for young drivers.
atm i pay AUD$700 a year for comprehensive which is quite good considering im only 20 obviously the car is in parents name otherwise id be paying 2k a year.
