    Default Drivetrain Leak

Discovered a few drops of fluid on the garage floor beneath the rear of the car the other day, so I investigated......

    This is what I found.

Anybody have any experience with this? Never heard of this before on the E34.

I had the seals in the transmission replaced about 5 years ago to fix the "pendulum" problem. As far as I know, that is the only work done to the drive train.

Output shaft seals, Common problem. Have to remove the shafts, clean (best to turn them around so they will last for another 200,000 mi) and replace the seals. Need a seal remover pick, space underneath it all and a slab (24 beers). change diff oil afterwards and refill with the right type of redline synthetic oil. A common problem, seals are cheap. Best t replace the 4x drive shaft boots whilst you are in there. they are more costly but they are important and hardly cheap to make.

    Thanks for the quick response!

Would these be the seals you are referring to?

They look like that yes, check part numbers on RealOEM and make sure you replace the boots too. Best, Nick
