So I put to 9.5" E38 Wheels on the rear with 245/40ZR18s. No rubbing, no problems thus far. I'll be putting the fronts in later today.

Be sure to watch for front end wobble at 45 mph. These add to ball joint stress.

Interesting. When I changed my upper & lower arms a few weeks ago, I noticed that all the bushings were OK, while the ball joints were shot! They made clunking noises and were quite loose, you could move them around with one finger. So, I guess, 18" rims are likely to kill the ball joints first?

Our roads here will kill those rims and tires. I feel the bumps with 16's on the car! They do look nice though. Have fun with them.
