Is it ok to reuse the metal ring when rebuilding calipers?

From what I see on sean and Johan's e32 site, I spy a little metal ring inside of the caliper that, I guess, is responsible for holding the caliper boot in. I purchased an ate brand rebuild kit by mail order, and don't see a metal ring in there. Would it be ok to reuse the existing ring? the car is a 7./91 525i. Thanks.

Yes, reuse it... that is not available for purchase as far as I know... I had MB caliper that lost that ring and didn't have any boot... and thus caliper siezed.

FWIW, i think the article on sean and johan's page used a kit with a new ring it, but i think the brand was balo or some such. thanks.
