    Default Air filter

Is there an easy way to remove/replace the air filter on my 94 525i without taking all that ducting apart?

Not really. How much depends on which model e-34. However, there are several removable clips that allow access to the filter element. Not sure, but your owers manual may show the procedure. If not the Bentley manual does. Search for a digital version on line or purchase one form an on-line vendor.
    Thanks,

It is easy to do if you open the bonnet and unclip the 2-piece filter housing. Remove old filter, clean out any crap, make sure engine side is clean as a whistle, install new filter and reclip taking care to make it neatly snug around all edges. 3 mins on most cars, maybe 10 mins the first time around.

You wont change mine unless you remove the alternator ducts and headlight rear cover. Then disconnect the large hose from the MAF, the air box heater and finally remove the 2 nuts that hold the air box in place. At that point all you need to do is remove the filter and put the air box in the dishwasher
