I'm going to have to clean the engine compartment but I don't want to do anything foolish. There is oil everywhere after the crankcase ventilation hose broke on a recent long trip.
Any advice on the best method/products?
Cheers,
Evan
I used an engine cleaning gun with my air compressor. The product I used was a non conducting safety solvent that required no water rinsing. It did a good job and I felt confident that it would not harm the electrical compentents or any plastics. You may find a stiff bristle brush is a big help and take the time to remove the air filter box to get at the engine better. Be sure to cover up the resulting opening. After make sure to use a light lubricant on all the linkages etc. It didn't take that much solvent. I put a drip pan on top of a large folded piece of cardboard to catch the majority of waste. The cardboard caught the remainder. Use a particle mask as the gun will give off a mist you should avoid inhailing.
