    Default More Colorplus Info....... GeorgeM

Here is some additional information (writeup) that was sent to me regarding leather reconditioning.

George - this was the info that I had mentioned to you before....

Also George..... I also recall an exchange we had about subframe bushings.... Do you have a plan?

Thanks Joe and Bill for the further info on Colorplus. Joe...we did start to have a good discussion on purchasing a sub frame tool only to be curtailed by a disappointing lack of support by board members. You may recall, I lobbied that a few of us kick in and purchase a BMW spec subframe tool for Bill R. Bill mentioned he would kick in $30 or so...I am of the school he shouldn't have to, but being Bill R...he offered...I would do the same of course and presume you would as well etc. We needed about 12 or so participants to pay for the tool which Bill would have ownership of for a couple of reasons. One...he is a pro who would use this tool more than anybody on the board and two...a small pay back for his tremendous long time contribution to this board as he has saved most that frequent this board literally hundred's of dollars.
An optional proposal is subsequent users of the tool could pay Bill a modest amount which would further defray our investment.
Sadly, many members that utilize the boundless wealth of information here do so unilaterally and aren't willing to contribute to this cause even though they would be recipients of this tool as it applies to virtually all late '80 thru '90's BMW's which share the same basic rear suspension set-up...the tool has attachments accommodating slight differences. A stark but telling statement for most on here that will own more than one BMW needing common sub frame bushings. In any event, we need to get a tool and pass it around among us. My policy is typically one of inclusion but I am disappointed that board members did not step up and help buy the tool and give back not only to the community here but a bit to Bill for his contribution. Their loss as you only get out of anything what you put in...some haven't learned that lesson yet. My position is if you don't contribute to the purchase of the tool you don't get to use it unless you come on board after its initial purchase.

I've often thought of that idea before but hesitated to mention it. Part of the reason is that the tool could become "lost", but if you took precautions such as Brett Anderson does when he rents tools, it would be a good idea.

This is the first that I've heard of our board buying a subframe bushing tool. I would gladly donate $30-40 if we could get this together. I totally agree that Bill R. should be the caretaker of the tool.

I still say most people on the board would benefit if they just flew Bill R. into their area and allowed him to work on their cars. =) I would bet he would love to fly up to the Pacific Northwest about this time of year...=)

no need to take the same precautions as Brett Anderson does Jr as it would be easy to track the tool down. Seems like a moot point however. I am sure you agree. How many E-34 owners that do their own maintenance cruise this board do you think Jr?
Conservatively a hundred or so? And how many have offered to kick in $30...would be a lot less if we got even a modest response....for access to the tool?
3 or 4 people including Bill, Joe, you and me? A joke...and not a particularly funny joke.
And there you have it my friend....not much more to say.

Default I don't believe I have seen such a post either

regarding the subframe bushing tool. I am on board for $30 or so for it. Last time I removed mine without it, it was quite a pain. I'm sure there are a few other regulars in Chicagoland that wouldn't mind partaking in this, but I can't speak for them.

Please include me in any e-mails if this idea gains momentum

here is the original post Scott where I made mention of buying a tool versus paying the hefty fee to Bret:

    http://www.bimmer.info/forum/showthr...=bret+anderson

Common sense to anybody that wrenches on these cars as all these cars need sub frame bushings at some point as you know:
Take note of the tremendous support...same this time around...lol.

What we can do is at some point Scott if you gain interest in the Chicago area is buy the tool for Bill to hold onto. I need to do this job at some point on my car. I might be able to gain support on the E-32 Roadfly board as well...some solid guys on there and we have traded a lot of parts and tools in the mail. If you ever wonder how many people are registered on this board and use its resources almost daily, take a look at board registration list at some point....a large membership. Draw your own conclusions.
    Cheers.
