you could always bypass it later and since its a small leak i wouldnt worry about it.

I have a small leak at the auxillary pump by the heater control valve. I assume it is this since it is always wet there. I'm thinking of a trip to Colorado later this week and was thinking of taking this car. I wonder if the auxillary pump can be bypassed or if I should even worry about it so long as I am watching my coolant level closely.
On my Mercedes 300TD, I have been told that the Aux water pump can be bypassed and that the only thing that will happen is less or no heat at idle at stoplights or some such. Otherwise, the heater will work fine. Anyone know if this is true in the E34?
Since I'm in SoCal, a great heater is not so much of a concern although my heater does work fine right now as does the AC.
Any comments?

you could also try to take the pump out and figure out what is wrong... it really isn't that complicated... 4 screws hold it together, and a magnet inside a "sealed" area is turned by a magnet in a non sealed area. (you can get to the "sealed" area by pulling on the plastic cover.
or how about this... Ringmaster (Bret Luter) has a used pump I'm sure he'd be willing to sell.

I disconnected the electrical plug from my aux water pump when it started smoking, hardly made any difference at all to the heat. I still get hot air, even at idle. I'm sure you could bypass it without any trouble at all.
I would recommend that you replace the auxiliary water pump. The heating system in the e34 is already fickle enough. Why not make sure this is not a contributing factor to other problems down the road. The part is relatively inexpensive and easy to replace. Remove the heater control valve cover. Remove the three screws attaching the heater control valve to the car. Lift out and undo the three hose clamps so the heater control volve and auxiliary water pump can be removed fromt he car. Take off the bracket holding the auxillary water pump to the heater control valve and replace the auxillary water pump with a new one.
the td's,sl's sel's and they work fine here is southern az. without it. Bmw's provide more than enough heat here also... If you get into serious cold country then it may not proved enough heat at idle though.
