    Default M5 Clutch

Hi all. Have a friend just got a 92 M5 Euro 400+horses, 5-speed manual w/ 112k kms on it. Clutch is a quite hard, he claims the stock clutch is a racing one and really stiff, but is there anything can be done to make clutch softer? Also, are M5s really a pain to drive/maintain, am I better off getting a 535i instead for those weekend drives? How do M5s stack up in normal city driving, stop-and-go and all that? Currently have an 89 525i US version that I am devoted to, but have had my eye on the M5. Is there a 'matic M5? The M5 really looks great and the huge engine filling up the entire engine bay looks awesome --but hard to maintain, too. Cheers!

No E34 M5 has 400+ horses unless it's got some serious work done to it. It would have been 315 hp from the factory in the 3.6l, and the 93 3.8l had 340.

He may have the original clutch, the replacement ones have much less pedal effort required. M5's can be expensive to maintain, and even adjusting the valves can be expensive. Some people say there were a few auto M5's made but if it is true, there may be less than 5 out there.
