Thread: Changing motor for power window

Default Changing motor for power window

    Hi,
My power window for front doors both on driver and passanger side failed on me. I notice that the window bracket is rivetted to the door.

If i want to change the motor, do i need to drill out the rivet and take out the whole bracket? Or can take out the motor without removing the whole bracket etc?

    Appreciate for any help...

When I changed out the motor on the rear door, I just drilled out the rivets and used bolts to mount the new. Did not need to remove the regulator (bracket).

    Hi,
I thought there're 2 torx screws mounting the motor? Do u mean to rivets are for the motor mounting bracket and not the regulator?

    Appreciate your input...

    OK,
I have drilled out the rivets, taken out the regulator, and found that there're broken teeth on the gear connecting the electric motor gear shaft. Dang.. need to get another one...

Is the gear sold separately or they only selling budled with the electric motor and gear assemly? It's expensive about Ringgit $400 hear in Malaysia ...

Default probably the plastic gear comes with the motor

not as single item as spare part, I assume.
Do you not have a chance to get a used part in Malaysia from a scrapyard?
Where are all the parts goping from scrapped cars in Singapore? There are a lot of BMW in S-pore.
In any case check in detail in the parts list based on your VIN

Yes, we can get it from the scrapyard (locally called "half cut" shop), which scrapped cars (cut into halves) are imported from Japan. In this case, the price is quoted as more than half of the original BMW power window motor.

I think there's a rule that singapore scrapped cars cannot go to Malaysia or it could be too expensive...

    Shogun... thanks for the url...

    Hi,
I got lucky, managed to get motor complete with regulator for Malaysian $150 (USD38) from a junkyard...

Now the power window is fixed except it didn't come with the spiral spring. Is ok not use the spring?

Default Some came with the clockspring and some

didn't have it.. It shouldn't matter, just helps to take the load off the gear teeth.
