Default Blower motor: How does it work??

Ok, I know this subjech has been covered a million times, but I have to ask.

My blower won't work on pos. 1. When i trick it and put it to 1½ it works. Pos. 2 works kinda like no. 1. Pos. 3 is the same as no. 4 (No difference).

Now I have had the controls out a few times and what i can see is that the blower speed regulator is mechanical and pulls a wire which goes "somewhere inside the car". Where does this wire go? Doesn't this wire pull a switch somewhere?

I have read about the sword and resistor packs, but as far as I can see the problem is mechanichal. Since I can turn the knob a bit to "in between positions" the before mentioned wire obviously does something?

Can somebody please explain this to me?

Default If you have a multimeter and little electr. knowledge

you can check it. It might be the switch which is out of order.
Maybe even a blast with a good electrical contact stray might help.

Here is a link to disassemble the parts.
