It's near Foxwoods, the Pequot reservation casino, but a very different vibe in town. With the taxes the casino pays they've rebuilt all the schools and propery taxes are quite low, so there are benefits. I never gamble though, so its a non issue.

I'm up in Danielson about 30+ miles straight north on 395. Because the casino is a reservation the towns don't actually get much money from them and it is a big bone of contention as you'll find out. The state divvies up the monthly payout the casino kicks back but the local towns don't get as much of it as they should. Surprised to hear taxes are low down there as it is a fairly wealthy area for eastern CT. What brings you to the area?

    John,
My wife and I are from the area originally, and we've really gotten played out on Dallas. She's a real estate agent and wants to partner up with her sister, who's got a nice biz and needs a partner.

As far as taxes, maybe its just by comparison to here. We don't have state taxes here, so typically property taxes are high. For example, city of dallas is about 1.7% and highland park, which is the really nice part of town is 2%. Stonington is a little under 1%, for much better schools.

As far as what I'm doing, I don't really know yet. I may start a detailing biz, or maybe even work for a dealer, but since I'm going to be mr. mom with the kids all summer, I'm not in a big rush. Luckily we can live on her deal for awhile.

When you get settled in take a drive up & I'll give you the tour. I've got 3 shop buildings with lots of interesting stuff for the car/motorcycle afflicted. Email me for directions.

Default I lived in CT many years ago but now the area is...

economically depressed. Anyway, what I really want to say is that in situations like this, is when this board really shines... establishing an acquaintance/friendship, or perhaps taking someone under someone else's wing... it's priceless.
